Lurve the 15-inch MacBook Pro but hates the optical drive? Well, a new rumor posted online still points to the 15-inch MacBook Air model arriving this year.

United Kingdom-based website ElectricPig is reporting that Cupertino, California-based tech giant Apple will launch its biggest MacBook Air this year, the 15-inch version and it will reportedly hit the market in April. If true, then the MacBook Air will not just compete against other ultrabook computers, but also the new iPad 3 or new iPad now with a more competitive “anti PC” specs.

The source of the rumor, according to the tech site, is a premium accessories maker for the Macintosh line. The new MacBook Air 2012 with 15-inch screen will reportedly replace the MacBook Pro, the report adds.

It is worth noting that “15-inch MacBook Air 2012 rumors” started last year.

The cheapest MacBook Air now is the $999 11.6-inch model with 64GB flash storage, 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and 2GB memory, while the most expensive is the $1599 13.3-inch model with 256GB flash storage, 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB shared L3 cache, also with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 like the cheaper models, but the device comes with 4GB memory.

It is safe to say that Apple will also upgrade the MacBook Air’s processor, flash storage or even the graphics card.
