iPhone 5 vs HTC One X a la Sprint?

Fresh from the rumor pond, HTC’s One X will reportedly join the Sprint network in June, colliding with the iPhone 5 release?

A new rumor is claiming that AT&T will not exclusively retail the new HTC One X, the Tegra 3 (international) Android smartphone with the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a new camera hardware and software and with the latest version of Sense user interface plus a high-definition screen.

According to a reposted BGR report, Sprint is on the verge of announcing its own One X, and the device might join the market on June 10. The rumor adds that Sprint will slap a new name on the One X — the HTC Jet.

Apparently, the rumor is pinpointing an exact release date, so it looks like the “source” of the rumor is confident enough to say that AT&T is not the exclusive carrier of the flagship HTC Android smartphone.

However, the release date of the One X with Sprint, if the date is accurate, is a bit odd because it might collide with the rumored release date of the iPhone 5, the long-rumored Apple smartphone that will reportedly include a larger touchscreen, the new A5X chip with quad-core graphics, plus a new camera sensor.

Apple’s iPhone is a popular smartphone brand in United States, so we’re not sure if HTC can withstand the iPhone’s onslaught in mid-2012.

Plus, it is also highly possible that the next iPhone will include LTE or Long-Term Evolution (based on the specs of the new iPad), and it will obviously challenge the “power” of other Android devices with the new wireless technology that allows faster uploads and downloads.

iPhone 5 and new iPad 3 connection: Release date and features

From “overheating” to LTE. Why analysts are still talking about the iPhone 5 and its much-rumored release date?

According to Apple’s latest press release, it has sold a shy 3 million iPad 3 tablet computers worldwide within the first four days on the store shelves. Apparently, the iPad 3 is now the most popular tablet PC in the world based on market growth and coverage — and it cemented Apple’s position in the tablet PC market.

Apple’s Phil Schiller said customers love the new features of the iPad 3, with the special mention of the Retina display with pixel density of 264. In exchange though, the iPad 3 is slightly thicker, slightly heavier and emits higher temperature arguably due to larger battery and the new CPU called A5X.

Here’s the quote from Apple’s press release:

“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold?the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”

Based on the tech specs of the new iPad, it is highly possible that the next iPhone will also introduce a “new screen,” possibly maintaining Retina on the larger screen, and also a bigger battery that will support the popular battery life of the Apple iPhone. If so, then the 2012 iPhone might also face the “same problems” reportedly plaguing the new tablet PC of Apple. Last year, the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S offer the same CPU and same-old features like lack of 4G (though the iPad 2 introduced a redesign).

According to customers, the iPad 3 overheats, has an increased “full charging” time, and shorter battery life. It is worth noting that the last “problem” that I mentioned is not widespread and might be related to customers’ activities (and excitement over the new device that will fade gradually).

One iPad 3 customer revealed:

My battery drains pretty fast, too, just doing regular stuff. Almost as fast as my iPhone 4 when I use it heavily. I haven’t done much.

I asked the Apple Store worker about that, and she told me that I need to let it get down to the battery warning, then fully charge it a few times. She said the battery needs to get used to being charged. Sounds pretty crazy to me, but, that’s what she said.

If Apple will increase the size of the iPhone this year, then it is possible that it will also increase the phone’s battery, from the current 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery that allows up to 7 hours of talk time on 3G or up to 14 hours on 2G, to possibly higher than 1520 mAh that will support the larger screen, the 4G LTE connectivity which consumes more juice and the improved system-on-a-chip A5X.

If customers are buying the iPad 3 due to its new screen and LTE features, then the iPhone 5, arguably, is on the verge of setting its own stellar record too, and analysts are echoing the same scenario this year.

One of them, Maynard Um of UBS, said that the biggest growth of Apple this year will be provided by the iPhone 5, and apparently, he thinks that the sales of the upcoming iPhone will beat the iPad 3's record-breaking numbers.

He said:

We expect Apple to launch its redesigned iPhone 5 in October & expect the company to accelerate the number of initial carriers it sells into to drive its biggest launch ever.

According to rumors, the iPhone 5 might get a June or October release date, after the rumored release of the new MacBook Air and Pro models (still according to rumors, just saying).

New iPhone 5 hint: Samsung supplies iPad 3 screen

Posted on March 17, 2012, 6:02 A.M., under iPhone 5, Samsung Mobile, iPad 3 categories.

The new iPad with Samsung screen.

Samsung phones are popular mainly because they offer impressive touchscreen technology, and it looks like Apple is one of Samsung’s fans. This week, a teardown has confirmed that Samsung is the supplier of the iPad 3's screen, the stunning new Retina screen with more pixels per inch than the older iPad 2.

According to Wall Street Journal, the high resolution screen of the new iPad is manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co., adding that Samsung’s display technology met “Apple’s specifications for the high-resolution screen,” beating other companies (LG and Sharp).

It is worth noting that Samsung is also the manufacturer of the iPad 3's new A5X system-on-a-chip, the dual-core CPU with the quad-core graphics processor.

Last week, Korea Times reported that Samsung is also set to manufacture the screen of the iPad Mini or the long-rumored new iPad with smaller display that will reportedly arrive this year.

If Samsung will manufacture the screen of the smaller iPad and the company is also the supplier of the iPad 3's screen, is it also possible that Samsung will supply the screen of the iPhone 5? For starters, the iPhone 5 is the rumored 2012 Apple smartphone that might get a June or October release date.

Rumors say the iPhone 5 might ship with larger screen with more pixels-per-inch, and now, the picture is clearer in my opinion. Samsung’s new phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, impressed many tech sites with its Super AMOLED screen with 310 pixels per inch on a 4.65-inch screen. If Apple will tap Samsung’s technology, then it looks like the iPhone 5 will also manifest the same “warmer” screen which is similar to the iPad 3.

Additional rumors say the iPhone 5 might support Long-Term Evolution, also similar to the iPad 3, and the new smartphone is also expected to include the dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics. Last year, Apple used the same dual-core A5 chip to power its iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5 release date: The “Sprint LTE problem”

Sprint will face an LTE iPhone 5 problem this year? One analyst said in a statement that the third-largest US wireless carrier might face the so-called “lag” if the iPhone 5 will include LTE.

Rumors say the iPhone 5 will get either a June or October release date.

But aside from the release date, rumors say the new iPhone might also ship with a larger screen, a new design and also, the much-anticipated 4G Long-Term Evolution which offers faster uploads and downloads.

Verizon is currently the LTE market leader in United States based on coverage while AT&T follows with its newly launched LTE networks. Meanwhile, Sprint is set to launch its own LTE network this year and most likely to be dealt before the release of the next iPhone.

According to Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett, Sprint might face a slowdown this year with the mention of the word “bankruptcy”, and Sprint might blame the iPhone 5.

Sprint reportedly signed a contract with Apple last year to get the iPhone on its network and so far, the result is near good.

For starters, last year’s deal with Apple requires Sprint to pay $20 billion for the iPhone in advance or in layman’s term, Sprint reportedly agreed to purchase at least 30.5 million iPhones over the next four years, including the current iPhone 4S and the upcoming iPhone, whether or not it could find customers to buy the phones.

Reports posted last year said the deal is on the positive side because Sprint reportedly attracted new customers, as well as upgrading customers with its unlimited promos.

However, Moffett thinks the deal will put Sprint under Verizon and AT&T’s numbers this year especially with the next iPhone that will include LTE (based on the new iPad with LTE). Moffett downgraded Sprint’s share rating yesterday putting it to “underperform” due to the LTE iPhone.

Customers might switch or choose Verizon and AT&T because they offer more LTE sites. “The problem is 4G,” Moffett said, adding that “Sprint doesn’t have enough free-and-clear spectrum on which to launch a competitive LTE network, and it doesn’t have the money to clear spectrum that’s already in use.”

A compelling 4G LTE is the only way says Moffett, but he quickly added that he is not predicting the Sprint bankruptcy, and just only pointing out the risks that the iPhone 5 might give.

It is worth noting that aside from the (expected) iPhone 5, Sprint is also scheduled to release its own LTE Samsung Galaxy Nexus this year, plus other Android devices.

iPhone 5 Getting a Samsung Galaxy S3 Moment in June?

Posted on March 15, 2012, 6:06 PM, under iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 categories.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Render

One rumor a day, will excite you before holiday.

A new rumor posted online is claiming that Samsung will launch its highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 in June — which is, surprisingly the real schedule of new iPhones. Apparently, Apple launched the iPhone 4S in October last year and not June for unknown reason/s if any.

According to Android and Me, the new Samsung Galaxy S3 rumor claims that the device will carry the latest Android version, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and will feature a high-definition 4.8-inch screen with the so-called Super AMOLED Plus technology which is similar to the Galaxy S2 but now with more pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is also, reportedly, equipped with a quad-core CPU, specifically the 1.5 or 1.8 GHz Exynos 4412 processor, and the new smartphone might also include a 12-megapixel primary camera and a ceramic casing.

The specs, obviously, is very interesting and very competitive and if accurate, then the Samsung Galaxy S3 is indeed the “it phone” that will compete against Apple’s long-rumored and much-anticipated iPhone 5 that will reportedly get a June release date, but some analysts think that Apple will now follow the October release date just because the iPhone 4S launch last year was very successful.

Based on the iPad 3 or new iPad’s specs, it is highly possible that Apple will use the same CPU, the dual-core A5X with quad-core graphics. Apple said the LTE-equipped iPad 3 is capable of delivering 10 hours battery life with the faster data connectivity and retina display. If Apple will use the same technique with its iPhone 5 — then this year’s smartphone rivalry will not just focus on operating system, but also on battery life and speed.

It is worth noting that a Samsung executive already promised a “longer-lasting” smartphone this year, and it is likely than not that he was talking about the Galaxy S3.
